Spider-man joined the "mad" mayor of Southend to abseil 100ft down the side of Victoria Plaza to raise money for charity.
The event was organised by charity Southend Phab, which promotes and encourages disabled and non-disabled people to work and socialise together.
The 50 people volunteering to zip down the side of the multi-storey car park, had to raise a minimum of £50 to do the abseil.
Mayor Roger Weaver said: "It was an exciting, interesting and occasionally a nerve-wrecking experience.
"Call me the mad mayor - I'll do anything as long as it is professionally run and safe.
"I'm doing it for town and charity not king and country.
"I did challenge the mayoress of Castlepoint to do the abseil too but she declined."
Mark Capon, 41, of Castledon Road, Billericay dressed up as Spider-man courtesy of a fancy dress shop In London Road, Leigh to complete the abseil.
He said: "I said to everyone I'd do it, so I have."
