Motorists have been warned to steer clear of Billericay town centre as resurfacing work continues at Sun Corner.
Despite warnings from Basildon Council to avoid the area, congestion is still causing drivers to be delayed as they make their way in and out of the town throughout the day.
Work on relaying the road surface and completing the new roundabout at Sun Corner is expected to be completed by contractors MacAlpine at the end of next week, on Friday, September 24.
Basildon Council portfolio holder for resources and Billericay West councillor Phil Turner asked motorists to be patient while the work is finished. Mr Turner said: "We apologise to everyone caught up in the delays caused by these works.
"However, they are essential and long overdue. They are being carried out to ultimately improve the area for motorists and pedestrians alike.
"Together with the major improvements being carried out to the walkways paving, it will ensure Billericay remains a thriving town centre and vibrant and safe place to work, live and visit."
