Convicted killer Jeremy Bamber believes a photograph may prove he is innocent of the murders of five members of his family.

Bamber was convicted of the killings in Tolleshunt D'Arcy in 1986 and lost an appeal against the conviction in 2002.

He claims the photograph, which shows blood flowing from a wound in his sister Sheila Caffell's chin and neck, could help clear his name. The picture was never shown to the jury which convicted him.

Bamber has always maintained Sheila, who had a history of mental illness, had killed their adoptive parents Nevill and June Bamber and her twin sons, six-year-olds Nicholas and Daniel, before turning the gun on herself.

Pathology evidence will now be sent to the Criminal Cases Review Commission in the hopes of getting his case referred back to the Court of Appeal.

In a statement, Essex Police said: "We accept that Jeremy Bamber's sole purpose is to find something which will overturn his conviction.

"If his legal team wishes to pursue another appeal that is his prerogative."
