Colchester paratroopers young and old travelled to their "spiritual home" to pay their respects to their fallen comrades.
The anniversary of operation Market Garden marked 60 years since the Parachute Regiment dropped troops behind enemy lines only to be defeated by the German army.
To mark the occasion more than 300 Colchester-based Paras, and at least four Colchester veterans of the epic battle, travelled to Arnhem, Holland, to remember their fallen brothers.
On Friday, a solemn ceremony in the heart of the city was followed by scenes of jubilation as the residents clapped and cheered the Second World War soldiers.
Then on Saturday, 300 red berets travelled from their Mersea Road barracks to parachute into one of the 1944 drop zones outside Arnhem at Ginkle Heide.
