Blondie fans were left feeling short changed on Saturday night after technical problems cut the band's performance short.

Music lovers had each paid £30 for tickets to the show at the Cliffs Pavilion, Westcliff, but were left without a finale when the band apologised for amplification problems and left the stage at 10.20pm.

Fan Paul Cooper said: "They went out with a whimper rather than a bang."

The premature finish meant they had no time to sing hits like Union City Blue, One Way Or Another or Heart of Glass which were being saved for the big finish.

However, Chas Mumford, general manager of the Cliffs, said the night had been packed with hits so no-one should feel too disappointed.

He said: "They didn't finish early but we didn't get an encore.

"A transformer on the band's PA equipment packed up twice throughout the show. They managed to replace it the first time but it packed up again right at the end of the show."

Mr Mumford said he was not sure which songs had been planned for the encore but added: "The great thing about Blondie was most of the songs they did were big hits. We were treated to an evening of big hits."
