Residents have been given a huge say over how Basildon Council should spend the £18.5 million allocated to the Craylands estate.
The three-day consultation exercise was a huge success, with people of all ages visiting the Craylands Community hall to discuss their ideas.
The area has suffered from vandalism, graffiti and anti-social behaviour and many of the properties need improvements.
Suggestions ranged from more litter bins, more phone boxes and better lighting to demolishing the maisonettes, building one main road through the estate and developing cul-de-sacs.
The lack of community facilities, including a post office and chemist, was also highlighted.
The results of the event are to be presented to the Basildon Renaissance Partnership towards the end of October 2004.
Residents will also shortly receive a newsletter with feedback from the event.
