One man hoping he knows his nine downs from his three acrosses is Sam Glen.
Clue solver - crossword finalist Sam Glen.
On Saturday he will be one of 100 finalists taking part in the Bert Danher Prize Crossword Competition organised by The Daily Telegraph.
The competition, now in its third year, will see participants competing against the clock to complete a special cryptic crossword at London's Canary Warf.
Mr Glen said: "I do the crossword most days and my best time so far is just under ten minutes. "Last year's winner did it in under seven minutes so I'm not really expecting to win. I will just be happy to finish it."
