Long-awaited building work on a new primary school will start within the next two weeks, ending years of delays.

The £3 million project for Two Village Primary School, which currently operates from split sites in Ramsey and Little Oakley, will begin on September 27.

The new location, off Mayes Lane, Little Oakley, will cater for 210 pupils and is expected to be ready by the end of August 2005.

It ends years of waiting for staff and parents after the project was held up by legal and archaeological wrangles.

Thrilled headteacher Pat Blackwell said: "It's wonderful everything can start now and we can start thinking about colour schemes and carpets. Time will fly so we need to be prepared."

The building work will be carried out by Kier Eastern in partnership with Essex County Council. A Kier Eastern spokesman described the facilities as "state of the art" and said the new building would be traditional in construction.
