A robbery victim has told how his wife was held at knife-point during a raid at their takeaway.

Kamwah and Piukin Lau were closing their shop in Colchester for the night when a man grabbed Mrs Lau and demanded money.

Mr Lau, 52, said: "He had a knife and it was about eight inches long. He said 'take out all the money' with the knife to my wife's throat."

The couple, who took over the takeaway about a month ago, handed over about £40 and the robber ran off.

Mr Lau said: "It was very, very scary. My wife wasn't harmed but anybody would be scared when someone is holding a knife to their throat."

The robbery, at the Welcome Chinese takeaway in Wethersfield Road, Monkwick, was reported at about 10.25pm on Tuesday. The man was described as white and aged about 26.

Anyone with information about the robbery should call police on 01206 762212 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555111
