A group which steers the motorists of Essex towards better driving techniques has chalked up an excellent record of success since it first hit the road a year ago.
The North East Thames RoSPA Advanced Drivers Association (NET RoADA) has recruited more than 80 members from Brentwood, Billericay, Ongar and beyond.
Fifteen people have already improved their driving skills and passed the association's tough advanced driving test.
Last week the successful candidates brought their certificates to their monthly meeting to mark the group's first anniversary.
Co-founder Ray Woods said the sole aim of NET RoADA was to reduce carnage on the roads.
He said: "It has been proved an advanced driver has between 50 and 75 per cent less chance of having an accident. People go on about speed but that is not the biggest issue. Looking but not seeing is the biggest factor."
"How many times do people drive down the road and are suddenly aware they don't remember anything about that bit of the journey? It is just a blur and they have not been concentrating. Most drivers don't see the potential hazards. We look much further ahead and look for all the potential hazards."
A year's membership costs £15 for which members get all the assistance they need to take and pass the RoSPA advanced driving test.
There is a social side to the group and regular talks on road safety issues at its meetings held in Roding Valley Hall, Buckhurst Hill on the first Tuesday of every month at 8pm.
