Residents in the Maldon district can expect 'severe' cuts to public services during the next few years, the district council has warned.

Maldon District Council will have to make difficult decisions about where its priorities lie and what can be scrapped to keep them funded, according to the council's finance and general service committee.

It estimates some £423,000 will need to be found in the next few years to meet projected spending plans.

At a committee meeting yesterday, councillors approved guidelines for spending from now until 2010.
