Castle Point Boxing Club has finally won the most important fight of its 50-year history by finding a new home.
The successful Canvey-based outfit seemed destined to close following Castle Point Council's decision to shut down their Barn Gym base.
However, club members refused to throw in the towel and demonstrated outside the locked gates of their former Ferry Road headquarters which helped force the council into a rethink.
The club have now been given the greenlight to hold regular training sessions at the 1066 pub in Long Road - much to the delight of coach Terry Dainty.
He said: "I was quite surprised to be honest, but we've managed to get a new home and we are very relieved. We may only be there for a year or 18 months as the pub is going to be closed as well, but at least it gives us a bit of time to find somewhere else."
