A bookie is betting on winning his battle to open in Frinton - despite being pipped at the post again.
Bobby Swift says he is determined to start a bookmakers in the town's prestigious shopping street after Tendring councillors yet again rejected his bid.
He lost a photo-finish last night as the planning committee narrowly rejected his application for the site at 117 Connaught Avenue by nine votes to eight. Moments earlier, the application looked like going ahead, sparking a recount.
Speaking after the meeting, a bemused Mr Swift said the decision was what he expected.
"It was a lot closer than I thought it would be," he said. "But they're still not taking into account the views of the local people."
He vowed to continue his appeal against an earlier decision against him.
