Southend United will today step up their attempts to sign a new goalkeeper on loan.

Blues' first choice keeper Bart Griemink is sidelined with a long term knee injury and Darryl Flahavan is the club's only fit senior custodian.

As a result, the League Two strugglers are hoping to recruit a new number two and are expecting to hear back from a shot-stopper today.

"We have held talks with a goalkeeper, but it's been difficult trying to get somebody in," said the Shrimpers' assistant manager Paul Brush.

"We should be finding out his decision later today, but it's harder to sign a number two keeper than it is to sign a number one as players obviously want to play games."
