More flags are to be flown over a historic village green - but they won't include the Stars and Stripes.
Last year councillors at Great Bentley sparked a storm of controversy after refusing to fly the American flag to welcome visiting US students.
The council said at the time: "The flagpole is for British flags, not for visitors or anyone else."
But now they have got the go-ahead for about 20 more flags.
Parish and district councillor David Taylor said: "At present you need planning permission to put up a country's flags but if you want to put up flags of other bodies, such as the Merchant Naval Association, you need advertising permission."
The parish council has obtained permission for about 20 more non-national flags, including the Red Cross.
