Controversial plans to expand a seafront pub have been rejected.
Tendring councillors pulled the plug on the ambitious scheme for the Bath House Pub in Walton - against planning officers' recommendations.
The officers said the application to provide an additional bar, restaurant and dance floor at the Princes Esplanade should go ahead.
But councillors sided with protesters against the expansion. Iris Johnson said: "I think it's vast over-development of the site and I am sure that members would be quite surprised with the way the application is trying to fit a quart into a pint pot."
There were fears of increased noise which could affect nearby residents in Kings Reach. Pub landlord David Green previously said he hoped the scheme would provide more jobs for the area.
