With key men Jeff Minton and Ty Gooden among those on the injured list, Canvey Island boss Jeff King has brought another experienced midfielder to Park Lane.
The Islanders have signed Scott Goodwin, who celebrated his 26th birthday yesterday, after the player, who returned from America recently, contacted the Nationwide Conference side's manager.
After starting as a trainee with Football League side Coventry, Goodwin has played more than 100 games with top non-league outfits, mostly for Hednesford, where he made 45 appearances, plus Hereford and Kettering, where he turned out in 29 matches apiece.
He's also had experience with Conference clubs Gravesend and Tamworth, leaving the latter at the end of last season.
Goodwin, who can play central midfield or in a wide position on the left, will have a run out for the Islanders' reserve side in tomorrow's Essex and Herts Border Combination visit to near neighbours Concord Rangers.
