The 44-year-old Canadian singer was in Harwich yesterday as more than 3,000 bikers and their mighty machines sped into the town as part of the Essex Air Ambulance motorbike rally.

Also an esteemed photographer, the world-famous artiste was there to take shots of the event.

But the star famous for his song, Everything I Do I Do It for You, also did it for the bikers, making an impromptu greeting to all the participants.

Although the star's welcome was kept top secret, organisers said there were more bikers than ever before. It was estimated that it will have raised even more than last year's £10,000.

It is the second year the end of the rally, which started in Ford Dunton, near Brentwood, has finished in Harwich.

Rachel Fryer, who helped set up the event for the air ambulance, said: "It's been fantastic yet again and it obviously helped having Bryan Adams here as well."

She said he signed autographs and also got up on stage where Essex FM were providing the entertainment for the crowds on the green next to the quayfront.
