Campaigners descended on Parliament in a mass demonstration to demand a better deal for pensioners.
Members of the Southend District Pensioners' Campaign were among those lobbying the Government.
Southend MPs David Amess and Teddy Taylor were presented with the Pensioners' Manifesto when they met with constituents.
This included demands for free travel on public transport and an increase in the state pension.
Reg Goswell, of Fairway Gardens Close, Eastwood, said: "Many people from all over the country were outside Parliament with their banners waving. They marched through St James's Park and marched on Whitehall."
Mr Goswell stressed the importance of raising the state pension and the need for free public transport for pensioners during the meeting.
He added: "The basic pension is around £70 at the moment and that is impossible to live on. We want a good basic pension for everyone linked to average earnings."
