Alex Goodrich celebrated his return to full fitness by claiming gold at Judo's British Youth Open in Sussex.
The 17-year-old, from Hadleigh, won four fiercely competitive fights, on his way to the top of the podium after recovering from an elbow injury.
"He was obviously very pleased," said mum Carol.
"But he deserves the success because he works so hard and is determined to do well. He's very single minded and is doing very well at the moment."
Goodrich, who trains at Bisham Abbey with the National Judo Academy, had previously won silver at the English Open as well in European competition.
