Shrimpers chief Steve Tilson is urging skipper Kevin Maher to keep his mouth shut and avoid any further bookings for dissent.
The composed midfielder will miss tomorrow's clash with Wycombe Wanderers through suspension having picked up five yellow cards during the opening seven games of the season.
Tilson has held talks with the former Tottenham Hotspur trainee over improving his disciplinary record.
The Blues boss said: "It is something we have spoken to him about. But in the heat of the moment Kev gets frustrated. He knows he is in the wrong though and so do we but he does need to curb his mouth."
Maher is also keen to avoid any further unnecessary cautions.
"I'm gutted to be missing tomorrow's match," said the 27-year-old. "I've picked up some silly bookings which I'm annoyed about and it's something I need to learn from."
