A woman who helped her terminally ill son to commit suicide visited Westminster to lobby in favour of a proposed law to legalise patient assisted dying.
Heather Pratten, of Bristol Close, Rayleigh, avoided jail in October 2001 after admitting helping her own son Nigel Goodman, who had an incurable form of Huntingdon's disease, to die.
Now she is supporting a new Private Members' Bill put forward by Lord Joel Joffe to legalise patient assisted death.
Mrs Pratten joined around 20 members of the Voluntary Euthanasia Society at Westminster in a bid to persuade members of the House of Lords to legalise patient assisted dying.
She said: "The Lords listened to our point of view and asked various questions on research figures that had been given. We hoped they would be convinced by it"
