Angry pensioners were left out of pocket when their post office could not give them their pensions.

A temporary glitch in the new national computerised system for pensions and benefits saw the link for Jaywick's Golf Green Road Post Office off line.

It meant pensioners could not get pay outs for nearly two days.

A Post Office spokesman said it was temporary glitch which lasted from Monday lunchtime to Tuesday night so they could get their pensions by yesterday.

He said: "We apologise for the inconvenience in that time but it is now back up and running."
