Bosses at one of Maldon's biggest employers are hoping it will be second time lucky after submitting a planning application for a 56-home housing development to replace its current High Street showroom.

The company's first attempt to get the proposals passed by councillors met stiff opposition after receiving more than 50 letters of objection voicing fears it would become a slum and a blot on the landscape.

But after taking into consideration all the negative comments made by members of Maldon District Council's planning committee, the newly-amended application has been put together.

Despite worries about over development, the plans still include 52 brand new homes but there is now a better mix, including 13 affordable housing units.
