A farmer has said sorry after fertiliser caused a stink which pervaded a seaside resort.
Residents in Frinton complained about the smell which drifted down Connaught Avenue and towards the seafront.
A Frinton town councillor described it is as a "cesspit" and believed it would harm tourism on one of the hottest days of the year.
"It has been appalling, especially considering we've had the best weather for two months," he said.
"Are you going to bring a young child down to the beach in a smell of sewage?"
The odour came from Great Holland Farm in the nearby village after sewage had been used as fertiliser.
But Roger Frere, who runs the farm, pleaded with people not to over-react.
He said: "I hold my hands up I do realise it can cause bad odours and unfortunately the wind changed."
