Martin Calver has revealed how he felt so homesick he had to return to Harwich and Parkeston.
Home-town boy Calver, 23, caused a storm when he quit The Royal Oak for Halstead Town in July.
But last week he moved back to Harwich, admitting he had made a big mistake.
Calver said: "It wasn't the fact I wasn't enjoying it at Halstead, it was just that once the dust had settled I felt I had made the wrong decision and missed playing for the Shrimpers.
"It had been playing on my mind for a few weeks and I felt my commitment to the Halstead team slowly deteriorating.
"I had to act now as I didn't want it to affect my own performances and didn't want to let Andy Clark and the other Halstead players down."
