The public inquiry into a proposed expansion of Harwich International Port is due to finish next week.
Planning inspector Ken Smith will hear closing speeches from representatives about Bathside Bay.
Hutchison Ports UK wants to double the size of Harwich International Port by building a new £300 million container terminal there.
Opponents and supporters are due to summarise their arguments on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday.
Site visits will be held towards the end of the month, when Mr Smith will look at various locations which would be affected by any building of a new container terminal.
Mr Smith's recommendations will be passed on to deputy prime minister John Prescott, who will determine whether Bathside Bay can be developed.
