The thefts, on two consecutive nights, are the latest in a series of incidents involving the family's pets.
Carol Cotter, of Church Hill, Purleigh, says two-month old chinchilla, Milky, was taken from a special pen in the back garden on Friday and the following night his father, Mickey, was also stolen.
The disappearance of the South American pets has left 13-year-old owner Melanie inconsolable her mum said.
"We are all absolutely disgusted that someone could do this it is not just that they have taken our pets, it is the fact that someone can cause this much hurt to another person."
The family have always kept pets, Mrs Cotter said, and currently own cats, a dog and two parrots and some canaries. She said past incidents include their owl being shot and killed with an air rifle.
Police are now investigating the incident. Anyone with information should contact Maldon police on 01621 852255.
