Proposals have been unveiled for a multi-million pound education and leisure development in Witham
The site plan for a new adult community college and all-weather sports pitch off Spinks Lane was presented to a meeting of Braintree Council's Witham area committee last night.
Under the proposals, the current pavilion and changing rooms for the existing playing fields, off Stevens Road, would be demolished, and the six grass sports pitches rearranged to make space for the new development.
At the east end of the playing fields there would be a £500,000 floodlit all-weather football and hockey pitch.
Between there and Spinks Lane would be a new sports pavilion, with 50 car parking spaces, and a new building for the North Essex Adult Community College - currently based across the road at the John Bramston School - with another 50 new parking spaces.
The committee approved planning officers' proposals to agree backing for the synthetic pitch project and to support a bid to the Football Foundation New Opportunities Fund to seek match funding for the new pitch.
