The star of BBC2 documentary Jimmy's Farm said: "I have been to Maldon a couple of times before and I think a market like this is a vital part of the community.
"It is obviously thriving and it is really good that local people are able to buy local produce."
John Archer, chairman of Maldon District Council, and Frank Delderfield (con, Great Totham), said: "It is a credit to the success of the market to see the number of people here today."
