Organic school meals were served up from the canteen at Chancellor Park Primary School, Chelmsford.
It is the first school in mid-Essex to go all organic. Mediterranean shepherd's pie made from organic mince, and vegetable pasta were the first main courses served at the new school in Brook End Road South. Children chose from desserts which included fruit salad, and cheese and biscuits.
Headteacher Lallie Godfrey also invited parents to sample dishes on the first day of term, so they could see for themselves how serious the school is about their children's diets, and said the 200 people that attended enjoyed every morsel.
