Work has officially begun on a new £12.3 million health centre.
Ivan Henderson MP and primary care health chief David Rex cut the first sod
A ground-breaking ceremony was held on Friday to mark the start of the rebuilding of Harwich Hospital and Dovercourt Health Centre.
Harwich MP Ivan Henderson and David Rex, chairman of Tendring Primary Care Trust, were on hand to lay the foundations for the project. The eagerly-awaited hospital is set to drastically improve medical services available in the district.
It will be carried out in partnership with the private sector and financed under the NHS Lift (Local Improvement Finance Trust) following an application to the Department of Health.
It is anticipated the new hospital will be completed by November 2005.
