All of south Essex's rubbish could end up in Basildon, Essex County Council has admitted.
The council wants to divide Essex into three areas for waste disposal, but Courtauld Road, Basildon, is the only area in the Thames Gateway section - which includes Southend - to be marked down for a major waste facility.
Keith Bobbin (Lab, Basildon Pitsea) told a meeting of the county's environment and waste committee yesterday: "It is totally unacceptable that Basildon should take not only south Essex waste but also that from Southend. We will oppose these plans tooth and nail.
