Noisy neighbours could find themselves slapped with a new-style anti-social behaviour punishment or even sent to prison.
Maldon District Council would be able to dish out fines and offenders could be jailed for non-compliance if councillors decide to implement new delegated powers offered to them by the Government.
Under part six of the Anti-Social Behaviour Act 2003, the council would be able to deal more swiftly with noise nuisance from both domestic and commercial properties.
Members of Maldon District Council's community services committee will decide whether to adopt the powers at a meeting on Tuesday at 7.30pm at the council's offices in Princes Road, Maldon.
