ALL of south Essex's rubbish could end up in Basildon, Essex County Council has admitted.
The council wants to divide Essex into three areas for waste disposal, but Courtauld Road, Basildon is the only area in the Thames Gateway section - which includes Southend - to be marked down for a major waste facility.
Keith Bobbin (Lab, Basildon Pitsea) told a meeting of the county's enviornment and waste committee yesterday: "It is totally unacceptable that Basildon should take not only south Essex waste but also that from Southend. We will oppose these plans tooth and nail.
"If the Tories get their way, the quality of life of my constituents and other Basildon people will suffer dramatically through increased pollution because of carbon emissions from the waste site and massive increases in lorry movements through our town."
