Shoppers watched as staff fought to save a elderly customer who had collapsed.
The woman was with her husband when she collapsed at the Fiveways store on the Triangle shopping centre at Frinton. She was attended by a staff member who was trained in first aid until paramedics took over.
Another customer also helped. However, the 71-year-old woman died.
Store manager John Paxman said: "While the situation is very rare, when it occurs in such a public environment, it can be upsetting for both staff and customers and I would like to sincerely thank those who assisted us in such distressing circumstances."
