Thousands of pounds of damage was caused by yobs who went on the rampage.
They drove around using stones and rocks to smash the rear windscreens of parked cars in Walton.
About ten cars were damaged in Princes Esplanade, Church Street, High Street and Station Road. Another car on the forecourt of Frinton Motors, Walton Road, was also smashed later by the same group.
Between two and three youths are thought to have been responsible, but it is not known if they were local or what car they were driving.
The vandalism took place between 2am and 3am yesterday. Sgt John Scott, of Walton police, put the cost of the damage at between £2,000 and £3,000.
