Harwich lifeboat station was the busiest one in Britain on bank holiday Monday.
During the day, the inshore lifeboat was called out four times and the offshore boat once.
Crews helped five people in strong winds up to gale force seven. Captain Rod Shaw, lifeboat operations manager and press officer for the station, said bad weather conditions were one of the reasons it was such a busy day.
But he added several boat owners were inexperienced and emergency crews had been called to deal with minor problems.
