A tight warm-up game ended in a 18-15 win for Rochford Hundred against London 3 NE newboys Chelmsford on Saturday.
Rochford got off to a good start when Damon Cooper kicked a penalty, but Chelmsford soon replied with a well taken try.
A Cooper dropped goal put Hundred back in front, but Chelmsford again scored an unconverted try to take the lead.
Skipper Matt Norris powered over for a Rochford try, but determined Chelmsford again took the lead with a try and Hundred looked set for defeat in this topsy-turvy clash.
However, a superb try scored by Darren Spencer and created by Cooper gave Hundred the narrowest of victories.
Rochford coach George Fourche was pleased with another pre-season win against higher league opposition, but did not feel his side had played as well as the previous week against Harlow when they were much sharper.
