A budget food store could be heading to Colchester, taking over part of Dovercourt Ford's dealership site.
The proposed site for a new Aldi store in Magdalen St, Colchester
Discount food store Aldi has submitted an outline planning application to Colchester Council for a food store and 12 flats and maisonettes above.
The application is for land next to Dovercourt Ford in Magdalen Street, Colchester, and it would see some of the buildings at the dealership demolished. However, the main showroom will remain.
The design statement supporting the application says: "The Ford dealership will be rationalised in part and to remain in operation adjacent to the proposals."
If approved, the development would open up views of the Kendall Road Folly. It would offer 74 parking spaces for the food store and 12 for the flats. There would also be 16 cycle spaces and 12 in a secure shed for the flats.
No-one from Dovercourt Ford was available to comment on the plans.
