Accident blackspots in Havering will be targeted from Monday as part of a major crackdown on speeding motorists.
The combined attack from the Metropolitan Police and the London Safety Camera Partnership (LSCP) will pinpoint known hotspots along the notorious A12 as it passes through Havering and on Upper Rainham Road in Hornchurch.
Police will use laser speed detection equipment and targeting drivers who persist in using their mobile phones despite new laws making it illegal.
The operation is a bid to reduce the 896 speed-related collisions on the borough's roads in the three years up to May 2004.
Police statisitcs show that of these, 141 were fatal or involved serious injuries.
