Essex have won the northern section of the South-East Golf League and have qualified for the overall final at Parkstone on Sunday, October 17.
They went into Sunday's final game with Middlesex at Stanmore believing they needed a 9-3 success but, after winning all four foursomes, they discovered that scoreline would only draw with Herts at the top.
However, they eventually won 10.5-1.5 to ensure the title. Boyce Hill's Paul Ring was the only local player in the team.
In the foursomes he teamed up with Bradley Smith (north Weald) for a 2 and 1 success. Then, in the afternoon singles, he proved too strong for Michael Cunningham and won 5 and 4.
