A kite flyer had to be flown to hospital after he was dragged six feet into the air for an unexpected flight at Tiptree.
The accident happened at the sports field in Maypole Road, Tiptree, as the 29-year-old was paying a bank holiday visit to his parents in Tiptree.
He was pulled into the air before being dragged along the ground. The man, of Eastbourne, who has not been named, is thought to have been knocked unconscious.
He was taken to Colchester General Hospital by air ambulance for treatment for spinal pain. He has since been discharged.
Tiptree resident Mick Warren, who is a member of the Essex Kite Group, said: "Accidents like that do happen when the wind is strong. There was a fatality in Stowmarket last year when the kite flyer landed on his head."
