Colchester United could be in for a cash windfall following the transfer of Wayne Andrews to Crystal Palace.

On his way - Wayne Andrews has been sold to Crystal Palace

U's boss Phil Parkinson revealed that the six-figure sum for Andrews could increase with additional clauses that have been bolted on to the deal.

Palace striker Gareth Williams was also part of the deal, as a free transfer, and it sees the Welsh striker, who has already enjoyed two positive loan spells with the club, sign a permanent deal.

"The money from the deal is good, but we also have the added bonus of getting a player who can offer us something a bit different up front," said Parkinson.

"We still have that threat with pace in Craig Fagan and now Williams will bring something different into the mix."

Parkinson, however, refused to say if he will be allowed to go out and spend the cash.

"We've got some money now, but I'll have to sit down with the chairman Peter Heard and discuss transfer matters," he said.

The U's chief described Andrews' move as a 'once in a lifetime' opportunity and wished him well.

Andrews himself admits that the move has left him buzzing.

He said: "It's exciting.

"To think that three years ago I was playing non-league football and now I'm part of a top-flight team, it's fantastic."
