A "mindless" vandalism spree caused £10,000 damage to 16 cars in Braintree.
Obscene words were scratched into the bodywork of the vehicles and other damage was caused over the bank holiday weekend.
A Braintree police spokesman said: "These are mindless acts of vandalism which have now cost over £20,000 over the last few weeks."
He added: "Chances are this was done by at least one man and one woman."
The cars and a van were all damaged between Sunday night and Monday morning across the town.
Police said the incidents, in the south of Braintree, were linked to another £10,000 of damage recently caused in the Bocking area.
Anyone with information should call Braintree police on 01376 551312 or Crimestoppers, anonymously, on 0800 555111.
