A disabled woman today told how she had to pay £95 to get a clamp taken off her car - despite being legally parked in a disabled bay.
Angry - Angela Lloyd shows her special parking badge Picture: MAXINE CLARKE
Angela Lloyd, 42, of Dewsgreen, Vange, was parked by the post office in Basildon Town Centre and had her blue parking badge on display. But when she returned to her car, it was clamped.
The clampers said they had not seen the badge, but still needed payment to take the clamp away.
Mrs Lloyd said: "They demanded £95 on the spot. Luckily we had it on us, but not everybody has got that.
"There are a lot of elderly people out there and this could cause real problems."
She has been told the money will be refunded. However she said: "It is not good enough. These parking wardens just don't look."
Nobody at the town centre management company, which has a contract with the clamping firm, was available for comment.
