Award-winning bed and breakfast landlady Wendy Anderson is threatening to shut up shop after the latest car parking blitz.

Traffic wardens freely dispensed tickets as they blitzed cars parked on one side of Roman Road, Colchester, yesterday.

They could not issue tickets for cars parked on the other side because residents' only car parking there does not apply on evenings, Sundays or bank holidays.

Yet on the side where Wendy Anderson runs The Old Manse B&B, residents wrongly thought cars could park there on bank holidays, as there has been an understanding cars parked on evenings and Sundays will not get a ticket.

Residents awoke on Bank Holiday Monday morning to discover the traffic warden had gone down the street, before 9am, issuing the tickets.

Mrs Anderson said: "I may have to close up shop if guests cannot park here, it makes me so cross.

"The town wants more B&B people. It is so upsetting."

Colchester Council was unavailable for comment. It has previously defended its parking enforcement, stating that restrictions are in place to keep the town's roads safe and keep traffic moving.
