The composed centre back converted two Kevin Maher set pieces to bag his first-ever brace as the Seasiders finally secured their opening victory of the season.

"I like to get forward but two goals in one game is a bit much for a centre half," joked the 24-year-old.

"The last time I did it I was about 10 and I was playing midfield in those days, but the most important thing was that we hung on to win the game.

"It doesn't matter who scores it's just great we got our first win of the season.

"It would have been nice to have taken the match ball home, but I don't want to get greedy, two goals and three points is certainly fine by me."
