Police and council chiefs have continued their crackdown on anti-social behaviour by introducing Basildon's second designated alcohol-free zone.
The newly-opened zone, in Felmores, follows a similar zone opened in Billericay town centre earlier this year.
It is hoped taking alcohol off the streets will reduce the amount of criminal damage and other anti-social crime carried out in the area.
Police and community support officers now have the power to stop people drinking within the zone, confiscate their alcohol or arrest anyone if they refuse to comply with their requests.
Anyone who is arrested can be issued with a £40 fine. Persistent offenders can be penalised with a fine of up to £500.
