They come up against old rivals Maldon again in the Cup at Burroughs Park next Saturday before hosting the same opposition in October in the Trophy.
This league clash was instantly forgettable with Wakering having a first-half Danny Heale effort ruled out for offside.
Goal chances were at a premium throughout and Maldon just about deservedly settled the issue nine minutes from time when substitute Simon Parker, who had only just come on, won the game with a 25-yard lob which gave Mark Hardingham in the home goal no chance.
